Information for participants of the International Siberian Transport Forum

Dear colleagues,

The International Siberian Transport Forum took place in Tashkent in the Tashkent State Transport University, (Uzbekistan) on 25 — 29 March, 2024. It is the largest industry event in the region, the purpose of which was the interaction of government bodies, science, and the business community to solve actual problems of the transport and road-building complexes, increase the investment attractiveness of Siberia.
Nearly 8,000 people visited the forum this year. It was also conducted in the online form for participants from other countries and cities. A personal attendance of a minimum of 1 member from each group of authors was obligatory.

Globalisation and integration processes in the world have intensified trade between countries. This process, on the one hand, requires the development of transport communications systems and the creation of new promising transcontinental transit corridors, and on the other hand, conditions the mutual coordination of transport systems of the countries in the region with the global transport system. Various initiatives are being put forward to implement transport projects, the most important of which are the corridors for the revival of the Great Silk Road. Cross-border transport corridors require a regional transport system to function effectively. Interconnected transport corridors are an important factor in interstate transport relations, but the development of these relations depends on the effective use of the regional transit potential of the Central Asian transport system.

The planned forum will address topical and relevant issues not only in the transport sector, which includes transport infrastructure, transport industry, transport means and management, but also in related fields of theoretical and applied knowledge — logistics, oil and gas industry, legal support, new technologies, economics and financial literacy as a supplementary field, political science, environmental studies, education and training future specialists, etc. as transport is one of the largest backbone industries with close links to all elements of the economy and social sphere. The efficiency of the transport sector determines the performance of other industries and therefore the economic well-being of the country.

With the development of the transport industry, many countries are now introducing and implementing various large-scale international and national projects, such as One Belt One Road, the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan corridor, transit ports and multimodal transport corridors. Countries implementing such programmes in Central and Southeast Asia include China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Mongolia in order to connect Asia with Africa and Europe through land and sea routes in order to deepen regional integration, promote trade and stimulate economic growth.

The key agenda of discussions was the implementation of the national project “Safe and high-quality roads” and the Comprehensive Plan for the expansion and modernization of infrastructure, including in the Siberian Federal District. Participants have discussed issues of digitization of the transport industry, infrastructure development, improving the traffic safety, and aspects of legislative regulation. A total of more than 500 reports were presented.

The construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line

The 454-kilometre China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project is designed to connect the railways of China and Uzbekistan through the territory of Kyrgyzstan and then link them with the European railway network via Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkiye as part of the New Silk Road transport system. there would be eight state borders on the route and two bogie replacement procedures, and a ferry crossing in Turkiye across Lake Van.
